Key update regarding the Indian Standard applicable to current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers for the Air Cooler and Air Filters (Air Filters for general ventilation - Technical specifications requirements and classification system based upon particulate matter efficiency (ePM)) (Quality Control) Order, 2024.

OVERVIEW
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has announced the Air Cooler and Air Filters (Quality Control) Extension Order, 2025, which will take effect on April 1st, 2025.
According to the order, all products concerning Air Coolers and Air Filters must comply with Indian Standard 17570 (Part 1): 2021 ISO 16890-2: 2016. They are required to display the Standard Mark and secure a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme-1 of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018, based on technical specifications and particulate matter efficiency (ePM) classification system for general ventilation air filters.
It's crucial to note that this Order does not pertain to domestically manufactured goods or articles intended for export.
Furthermore, micro and small enterprises, as defined by the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, are exempt from compliance for a specified period starting from the notification's publication date. Additionally, enterprises registered under the 'Udyam portal' of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, with restricted investment and turnover, are also exempt from this Order.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is designated as the certifying and regulatory authority for products associated with Water Meters and Accessories.
Violations of this order will be subject to penalties as stipulated in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
