Key update regarding the Indian Standard applicable to current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers for the Electrical Appliances for Domestic Water Heating (Stationary storage type electric water heaters) (Quality Control) Order, 2024.

OVERVIEW
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has recently released a Quality Control Order titled the "Electrical Appliances for Domestic Water Heating (Quality Control) Order, 2024." It is set to take effect six months after being published in the Official Gazette.
As per this directive, all electric appliances meant for domestic water heating must meet the specific quality standard outlined in Indian Standard 2082:2018 (Stationary storage type electric water heaters). Additionally, these products must visibly display the Standard Mark to demonstrate conformity with these standards and obtain a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme-1 as detailed in Schedule-II of the Regulations for Conformity Assessment under the Bureau of Indian Standards, 2018.
It's important to note that this order excludes goods or articles manufactured within the country for the purpose of export.
Additionally, for micro enterprises defined under clauses (h) and (m) of Section 2 of the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006), this requirement will be enforced twelve months after the publication date of this notification.
Additionally, small enterprises falling under the clauses of the aforementioned Act will need to comply with this provision nine months from the publication date.
The Bureau of Indian Standards is designated as the authority responsible for certification and enforcement to ensure compliance with this order.
Any person or entity found contravening these provisions will face penalties as specified in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
