Key update regarding the Indian Standard applicable to current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers for the Air Cooler and Air Filters (Evaporative Air Coolers (Desert Coolers)) (Quality Control) Order, 2024.

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has released a quality control order named the "Air Cooler and Air Filters (Quality Control) Order, 2024."

This order will be enforced six months after its publication in the Official Gazette.

According to the order, all products concerning Air Coolers and Air Filters must comply with Indian Standard IS 3315:2019 for Evaporative Air Coolers (Desert Coolers). These items must display the Standard Mark and secure a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme-1 of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

It's crucial to note that this Order excludes goods or articles manufactured domestically for export purposes.

In addition, micro and small enterprises, as defined by the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, are granted an exemption from compliance for a specified period starting from the publication date of the notification. Moreover, enterprises registered under the 'Udyam portal' of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, with limited investment and turnover, are also exempt from adhering to this Order.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is designated as the certifying and regulatory authority for products associated with Water Meters and Accessories.

Violations of this order will be subject to penalties as stipulated in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
