OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued a Quality Control Order named the "Water Meters and Accessories (Quality Control) Order, 2024."

This order will become effective six months after its publication in the Official Gazette.

Products associated with Water Meters and Accessories must comply with Indian Standard 2373:1981 (Water meters - bulk type) and display the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, following Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

Exemptions from this order apply to products manufactured domestically for export. Furthermore, for micro and small enterprises defined under clauses (h) and (m) of section 2 of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006), the order will take effect twelve months and nine months from the publication date, respectively.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is designated as the certifying and regulatory authority for products related to Water Meters and Accessories.

Violations of this order will be subject to penalties as stipulated in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
