IS 8910:1978 outlines the general requirements for supplying mild steel wire of cold heading quality. Unless agreed upon by both parties involved, the manufacturer has the authority to determine the steel manufacturing process. Steel should be supplied in a semi-killed or killed state. It's imperative to prevent external and internal flaws like pits, pores, pinholes, blisters, laps, grooves, cracks or flaws, shrink holes, and slag inclusions. The mechanical properties of the steel wire must meet the standards specified upon testing, and its chemical composition should align with the specified standard.

PACKING AND MARKING:

Additionally, the standard mark (ISI Mark) may be affixed to the material. Manufacturers are required to obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use the standard mark (ISI Mark). This license is granted following a thorough evaluation of manufacturing infrastructure, production processes, and testing capabilities during an inspection at the manufacturing premises by the Bureau.
