In today's competitive landscape, maintaining market presence without a certified, high-quality product can be challenging. Obtaining a BIS license may also be essential for selling products in the Indian market. To achieve BIS certification and ensure product quality, manufacturers must adhere to the specified Indian standards.
Let's delve deeper into at IS 8052:2006 for steel ingots, billets, and blooms for the production of springs, rivets, and screws for general engineering applications.
This standard outlines the criteria for steel ingots, cast billet ingots, billets, and continuous cast blooms used in producing volute, helical, and laminated springs for railway rolling stock, automotive suspension, and various general engineering applications. Additionally, it covers their use in manufacturing wood screws, spring washers, hard-drawn steel wire for upholstery springs, machine screws, rivet bars for structural and shipbuilding purposes, and bright bars. Ingots, billets, and blooms specified herein must be employed to produce bars and flats meeting the standards outlined.
The overall steel supply requirements should adhere to IS 8910 standards. The dimensions of ingots, billets, or blooms must ensure a minimum reduction ratio of 16:1 from their minimum cross-sectional area to the maximum cross-sectional area of the finished steel product.
The supplier may employ any commercial steel-making process deemed suitable. However, the presence of pipe, lamination, segregation, inclusion, and cracks is strictly prohibited in billets, blooms, and continuously cast billets or blooms.
The subsequent test must be conducted for Steel Ingots, Billets and Blooms.

Marking procedures must comply with IS 8052:2006 specifications. Each ingot, billet, and bloom should be clearly stamped or painted with the cast number, grade, and manufacturing source identity. Additionally, the standard mark (ISI Mark) may be applied to the material. Manufacturers are required to obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to utilize the standard mark (ISI Mark), which is granted following an evaluation of manufacturing infrastructure, production processes, quality control, and testing capabilities during an on-site visit to the manufacturing premises.
Acquiring a BIS license requires a comprehensive review of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control abilities, testing resources, and production procedures. This thorough assessment guarantees that products not only adhere to regulations but also prioritize consumer safety and reliability.
