In today's competitive market, sustaining a presence without a certified, high-quality product can be challenging. Selling products in the Indian market may necessitate obtaining a BIS license. To attain BIS certification and ensure product quality, manufacturers must ensure adherence to specified Indian standards.
Let's delve deeper into IS 1489 (Part 2), which covers Portland pozzolana cement fly ash-based.
IS 1489 (Part 2) encompasses Portland pozzolana cement - Calcined clay based. This standard focuses on the manufacturing, physical, and chemical prerequisites of Portland-pozzolana cement derived from calcined clay pozzolana or a blend of calcined clay.
Portland Pozzolana Cement, a variant of Blended Cement, is crafted by either inter-grinding Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) clinker with gypsum and pozzolanic materials in precise ratios or grinding OPC clinker, gypsum, and pozzolanic materials like fly ash separately, then thoroughly blending them in specific proportions.
PPC enhances workability, reduces segregation and bleeding, improves water-tightness, and minimizes lime leaching. It produces lower hydration heat and provides enhanced resistance against aggressive water containing sulphates and chlorides. Moreover, PPC increases the longevity of structures and boosts concrete strength over time by enhancing corrosion resistance and impermeability. Additionally, it safeguards against alkali-aggregate reaction in concrete.
The specified tests must be conducted for PPC Calcined Clay based cement.
Fineness test
Soundness test
Setting time
Compressive Strength
Transverse Strength Test
Drying shrinkage
Chemical testing
Fly ash testing
Calcined clay testing
A properly maintained laboratory is essential for conducting various tests according to the methods outlined in the standard.
The manufacturer is required to demonstrate compliance with this standard for Portland Pozzolana Cement - Calcined clay based. The BIS Standard Mark (ISI Mark) must be visibly displayed on each bag or drum, or on the label affixed to it, provided that the contents meet the specified requirements. Marking procedures must adhere to IS 1489 (Part 2). Additionally, manufacturers need a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use the standard mark (ISI Mark). This license is granted following a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control measures, testing capabilities, and production processes.
