This standard outlines the chemical and physical criteria, as well as the manufacturing process, for rapid hardening Portland cement.

Rapid hardening Portland cement is manufactured by thoroughly blending calcareous and argillaceous materials, along with other substances containing silica, alumina, or iron oxide. These materials are then subjected to clinkering temperatures, followed by grinding the resulting clinker to produce cement that complies with this specification. Post-burning, only gypsum (natural or chemical), water, or both, and not exceeding one percent of air-entraining agents or other non-harmful agents may be added.

Rapid hardening Portland cement must meet the specified physical and chemical requirements outlined in the standard when tested according to the designated methods. It is the responsibility of the manufacturer to ensure that the cement conforms to these standard requirements.

PACKING & MARKING

Packing and marking procedures must adhere to the specifications outlined in IS 8041:1990. The cement should be packaged in bags bearing the manufacturer's name or trademark, along with the net mass of the cement. Optionally, the bags may also display the Standard Mark (ISI Mark). Manufacturers are required to obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards for rapid hardening Portland cement to utilize the standard mark (ISI Mark). BIS will issue the license upon compliance with all relevant requirements of applicable Indian standards.
