In today's competitive landscape, maintaining market presence without a certified, high-quality product can be challenging. Obtaining a BIS license may also be essential for selling products in the Indian market. To achieve BIS certification and ensure product quality, manufacturers must adhere to the specified Indian standards.
Let's delve deeper into at IS 302(Part 2/Sec 30) for room heaters.
Room heaters are included in the coverage of IS 302(Part 2/sec 30), defining safety requirements for electric radiators (room heaters). However, it's important to note that this standard does not cover performance requirements, as those are addressed in a separate standard.
Electric radiators, also known as room heaters, offer an energy-efficient method for heating homes. They utilize a thermodynamic fluid, such as oil, which transforms into heat energy through electricity. Each electric radiator is furnished with a thermostat to control the energy needed for maintaining the desired room temperature.
It falls under the following two categories:
Group I - Up to and including 1000 W
Group II - Above 1000 W
This standard outlines safety guidelines for electric radiators (room heaters) intended for household and similar uses. These appliances should have rated voltages of up to 250 V for single-phase devices and 415 V for other appliances.
Examples of appliances covered by this standard include:
Convector heaters
Fan heaters
Heaters for use in greenhouses
Liquid filled radiators
Panel heaters
Radiant heaters
Tubular heaters
Room heaters must undergo the following tests.
Earth continuity test
Electric strength test
Functional test
Protection against access to live parts
Provision for Earthing
Power input and current
Heating
Moisture resistance
Leakage current and electric strength
Transient overvoltage
Mechanical strength and so on
The product must adhere to the safety standards outlined in the standard. Labeling and marking procedures must comply with the requirements specified in IS 302 (Part 2/Sec 30):2007. Additionally, the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) may be affixed to radiators (room heaters). BIS issues certificates under the product certification program allowing the use of the standard mark (ISI Mark) for compliant goods. Manufacturers must acquire a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use the standard mark (ISI Mark).
Acquiring a BIS license requires a comprehensive review of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control abilities, testing resources, and production procedures. This thorough assessment guarantees that products not only adhere to regulations but also prioritize consumer safety and reliability.
