In today's competitive market, maintaining a presence without a certified, high-quality product can be challenging. Selling products in the Indian market may require obtaining a BIS license. To attain BIS certification and ensure product quality, manufacturers must ensure their product adheres to the specified Indian standards.
Let's delve deeper into at IS 6909: 1990 for supersulphated cement.
IS 6909:1990 pertains to supersulphated Cement. This standard delineates the criteria for the composition, production, and testing of supersulphated cement. Compared to ordinary Portland cement, supersulphated cement offers several benefits, such as reduced hydration heat evolution, superior resistance to sulphates, and a higher proportion of gypsum to clinker.
Supersulphated cement is produced by intergrinding or closely blending a mixture of granulated blast furnace slag, calcium sulphate, and a small quantity of 33-grade ordinary Portland cement, Portland clinker, or another lime source. The dry granulated blast furnace slag component in the mixture must constitute at least 70% by mass. Additionally, the cement must be ground to a finer consistency than 33-grade ordinary Portland cement, and the manufacturing process must ensure thorough blending of its constituents.
Upon testing as per designated methods, supersulphated cement must satisfy the chemical and physical criteria outlined in the standard. It is the responsibility of the manufacturer to ensure compliance with these standards. An appropriately maintained laboratory is necessary to conduct the various tests as per the specified methods.

The packing of supersulphated Cement must adhere to IS 6909:1990 guidelines, while labeling and marking should align with the standard specifications. Each bag or drum of supersulphated Cement must display the BIS Standard Mark (ISI Mark) or on its label, provided the material within meets the specified requirements. Manufacturers are required to obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to utilize the standard mark (ISI Mark), which is granted upon successful evaluation of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control and testing capabilities, and production processes.
