The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has recently issued a Quality Control Order titled the "Electrical Appliance for Commercial Dispensing and Vending (Quality Control) Order, 2023."

This order will come into effect six months after being published in the Official Gazette.

As per this order, all electrical appliances designed for commercial dispensing and vending must adhere to Indian Standard 302 (Part 2 or Sec 75): 2018 and prominently display the Standard Mark. They are required to obtain a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme-1 as specified in Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations from 2018.

However, it is essential to note that this order does not extend to goods or articles produced domestically for export purposes.

For micro-enterprises, as defined in section 2 of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, this order will take effect twelve months after its publication date. Similarly, for small enterprises under the same Act, it will be enforceable nine months after publication.
