We have crucial announcement concerning the Indian Standard for the Electrical Appliances for Kitchen (Safety of household and similar electrical appliances Particular requirements - toasters, grills, roasters and similar appliances) (Quality Control) Order, 2023 impacting all current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers.

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has recently introduced a new Quality Control Order known as the "Electrical Appliances for Kitchen (Quality Control) Order, 2023."

It will take effect six months after being published in the Official Gazette.

According to this directive, all Kitchen Electrical Appliances must adhere to Indian Standard 302 (Part 2/Sec 9): 2009, which pertains to the safety requirements for household and similar electrical appliances, including toasters, grills, roasters, and similar appliances.

To demonstrate compliance, these appliances should display the Standard Mark obtained through a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, in accordance with Scheme-1 as detailed in Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations from 2018.

It should be noted that this order does not apply to goods or articles manufactured domestically for export purposes.

For micro-enterprises, as defined in clauses (h) and (m) of section 2 of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006), this order will take effect twelve months after its publication. Similarly, for small enterprises defined under the same clauses of the Act, the order will come into force nine months after publication.

Under this order, the Bureau of Indian Standards has been appointed as the authority responsible for certifying and enforcing compliance for Electrical Appliances used in the Kitchen.

Any person found violating the provisions of this order may face penalties as stipulated in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
