Key update regarding the Indian Standard applicable to current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers for the Cast Iron Products (Cast Iron Manhole Covers and Frames) (Quality Control) Order, 2023.

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has introduced the "Cast Iron Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023," a comprehensive quality control regulation aimed at enhancing industry standards. This directive will come into effect six months after its publication in the Official Gazette.

Under this order, all cast iron products must comply with Indian Standard 1726:1991 (Cast Iron Manhole Covers and Frames) and carry the Standard Mark, which must be obtained through a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, in accordance with Scheme-1 of Schedule-II under the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

It's important to note that the order excludes domestically manufactured products and items meant for export.

For small enterprises, as defined in clauses (h) and (m) of section 2 of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006), the order will be enforced nine months from the publication date.

Micro-enterprises will have twelve months from the publication date before the order applies.

This new regulation is a significant step toward improving quality control for cast iron products in India.

QCO Order New

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has been appointed as the certifying and enforcing authority for Cast Iron Products under the new quality control directive.

Any breach of this order will result in penalties in accordance with the provisions specified in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
