The product category Adapters for Household and Similar Electrical Appliances under IS 302 (Part 1): 2008 is mandatorily covered under Scheme II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. A revision of this standard has been published as IS 302 (Part 1): 2024 / IEC 60335-1: 2020. Concurrent Period: The old standard (IS 302-1: 2008) will run concurrently with the revised standard until 23rd February 2025. Post this date, IS 302-1: 2008 will be withdrawn. Major Changes: The revision introduces significant updates, including changes to normative references, additional requirements for battery-operated appliances, cyber security provisions, mechanical strength tests, and much more. Updates to align with recent editions of normative references. Conversion of several notes to normative text for better clarity. Enhanced requirements for PELV circuits, battery-operated appliances, and metal-ion batteries. New annexures, such as Annex T for UV-C radiation and Annex U for cyber security. Revised mechanical strength and moisture resistance test criteria. Introduction of symbols and definitions for new concepts like Class III appliances and detachable power supply parts. A. For Existing Licensees: Mandatory Implementation: All existing licensees must ensure compliance with IS 302 (Part 1): 2024 by 23rd February 2025. Licenses not compliant by this date will be canceled. Submission of Test Reports: Licensees are required to submit complete test reports for lead models tested as per the revised standard from a BIS-recognized laboratory. Undertaking for Other Models: An undertaking must be submitted confirming that all series models conform to the revised standard. Non-compliance Actions: Failure to comply will result in cancellation of the license or deletion of the non-compliant models. B. For New Applicants: Applications under the old standard will be accepted until one month before 23rd February 2025. Applications under the old standard already under process must include an undertaking to transition to the revised standard before the deadline. Post 23rd February 2025, no license will be granted as per the old standard. C. For Change in Scope of License: Changes in scope for licenses will follow the guidelines for new applicants. Requests under the old standard will be processed only until the licensee switches to the revised standard or the deadline, whichever is earlier. The guidelines outlined above are effective immediately to facilitate a smooth transition to IS 302 (Part 1): 2024.
