The Indian government has introduced essential guidelines for implementing IS 18112:2022, which sets requirements for Digital Television (DTV) receivers designed for Free-To-Air (FTA) satellite broadcasts. Here’s what you need to know to stay compliant:
IS 18112:2022 defines the key requirements for DTV receivers, ensuring these devices can effectively decode digital satellite broadcasts, enhancing digital television access and quality across India.
Compliance with IS 18112:2022 is mandatory and falls under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification. This also includes adherence to IS 616:2017/IEC 60065:2014, which covers safety standards for televisions. All manufacturers must ensure their DTV models meet these requirements to legally market them.
Manufacturers and existing licensees must integrate IS 18112:2022 into their products by April 25, 2025, to remain compliant.
For manufacturers currently licensed for Plasma, LCD, or LED televisions:
Mandatory Integration: IS 18112:2022 must be incorporated with safety standards IS 616:2017/IEC 60065:2014.
Application Process: Submit an inclusion application per the 'Guidelines for Change in Scope of Licence (CSoL)' under the BIS Conformity Assessment Scheme.
Failure to comply will result in:
License Scope Removal: Models failing to meet IS 18112:2022 requirements will be removed from the license scope after April 25, 2025.
License Cancellation: Persistent non-compliance may lead to license cancellation.
With the April 2025 compliance deadline, manufacturers should prioritize adherence to IS 18112:2022. Meeting these standards is essential for regulatory compliance and positions companies to compete in India’s digital television market by delivering high-quality products.
