OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has released a Quality Control Order named the "Miscellaneous Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023."

This order will take effect six months after its publication in the Official Gazette.

Under this order, items classified as Miscellaneous Steel Products must conform to Indian Standard IS 15155:2020 for Bar or Wire Wrapped Steel Cylinder Pipes with Mortar Lining and Coating, including Specials - specifications. These products must display the Standard Mark and obtain a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. It's crucial to note that this order excludes items manufactured domestically for export.

As per the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, micro enterprises must achieve compliance within twelve months from the date of publication, whereas small enterprises are required to comply within nine months from the date of publication.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is responsible for certifying and enforcing compliance for the goods or articles specified in this order. Failure to adhere to these provisions will lead to penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
