OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Textiles is set to implement the "Geo Textiles (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2022," which will take effect from January 1, 2024. This amendment aims to improve and bolster the current quality control framework for geotextiles, ensuring higher standards within the industry.

This order specifically applies to products categorized as High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) geomembranes for lining, with the exception of those designated for export.

To meet established standards, the specified products must conform to Indian Standard IS 16352:2020 (Geosynthetics - High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Geomembranes for Lining - Specification) and display the Standard Mark. Manufacturers must obtain a license from the Bureau under Scheme-I of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau is authorized as both the certifying and enforcing body for the specified products, specifically High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Geomembranes for lining. Failure to comply with this order may result in penalties as per the provisions outlined in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).

This regulatory initiative aims to maintain the quality and standards of geotextiles, with a specific focus on High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Geomembranes for lining, to promote safety and reliability in the industry.
