OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Textiles is set to enforce the "Geo Textiles (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2022," scheduled to take effect from January 1, 2024. This amendment aims to enhance and fortify the current quality control framework for geo textiles, thereby ensuring elevated standards across the industry.

This order pertains specifically to goods or articles categorized as Open Weave Coir Bhoovastra, with the exclusion of those intended for export.

To ensure conformity with established standards, the specified goods or articles must meet the Indian Standard IS 15869:2020 (Textiles - Specification for open weave coir bhoovastra) and display the Standard Mark. Manufacturers must acquire a license from the Bureau as per Scheme-I of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau is authorized as both the certifying and enforcing body for the specified goods or articles, specifically Open Weave Coir Bhoovastra. Failure to comply with this directive may result in penalties under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).

This regulatory initiative aims to maintain the quality and standards of Geo Textiles, particularly concerning Open Weave Coir Bhoovastra, promoting safety and reliability across the industry.
