We have crucial announcement concerning the Indian Standard for the Bottled Water Dispensers (Quality Control) Order, 2024, impacting all current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers.
BIS QCO for the Bottled Water Dispensers
OVERVIEW
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued a Quality Control Order named the Bottled Water Dispensers (Quality Control) Order, 2024, which will take effect upon its publication in the Official Gazette.
According to the order, Bottled Water Dispensers must comply with Indian Standard 17681:2022 and display the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) as per Scheme-1 of Schedule-II under the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
Key Implementation dates are as follows:

General (excluding Micro and Small Enterprises): July 1, 2024

Small Enterprises: October 1, 2024

Micro Enterprises: January 1, 2025
Micro and small enterprises, as defined by the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, are required to adhere to the standards within the timelines specified for each category.
Furthermore, this Order excludes goods or articles produced domestically intended for export.
The Bureau of Indian Standards will serve as the certifying and enforcing body for Bottled Water Dispensers. Violators of this Order will face penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.

As per the definitions under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, micro and small enterprises are required to comply with the Order within twelve months and nine months from the date of publication, respectively.
