OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has released a Quality Control Order named the "Miscellaneous Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023."

This order will take effect six months after its publication in the Official Gazette.

According to this order, Miscellaneous Steel Products must comply with Indian Standard IS 6913:1973 for Stainless steel tubes used in the food and beverage industry. These items must display the Standard Mark and be licensed by the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. It's important to note that this requirement excludes goods manufactured domestically for export.

As per the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, micro enterprises must comply within twelve months from the publication date, whereas small enterprises have nine months from the publication date to comply with these regulations.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is designated as the authority responsible for certification and enforcement of the goods or articles outlined in this order. Failure to comply with these provisions will lead to penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
