OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has released a Quality Control Order titled the "Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024."

Effective Date: The order will take effect on the specified date as published in the Official Gazette.

Applicability:

This pertains to Hot-Dip Galvanized/Galvannealed Steel Sheets and Strips for Automotive Uses.
Does not cover domestically produced steel and steel items intended for export, meeting foreign client specifications.

Standards Compliance:

Each steel strip must adhere to the Indian Standard IS 18385: 2023.
Every shipment needs to be accompanied by a Test Certificate carrying the Standard Mark issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certified manufacturer.

Certification: - Steel products must display the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau in accordance with Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

Disposal of Substandard Products: - In case of substandard or defective products, they must be disposed of as scrap in accordance with applicable provisions.

Enforcement: -The certifying and enforcing authority is designated as the Bureau of Indian Standards.

Penalties: -Violations of the order are subject to punishment under Section 29 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).

Amendments: -Any changes or updates to the Indian Standards mentioned in the order by the Bureau of Indian Standards will be effective from the notified date.
