We have crucial announcement concerning the Indian Standard for Steel and Steel Products (Hot rolled and cold rolled steel strips intended for processing of semi/fully processed non-grain oriented electrical steel or fully processed grain oriented electrical steel) (Quality Control) Order, 2024, impacting all current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers.

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has released a Quality Control Order titled the "Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024."

Effective Date: It will come into effect six months following its publication in the Official Gazette.

Applicability:

This pertains to hot-rolled and cold-rolled steel strips used for processing semi or fully processed non-grain-oriented electrical steel or fully processed grain-oriented electrical steel.
This does not include domestically produced steel and steel products meant for export that meet the specifications of foreign buyers.

Standards Compliance:

Each steel strip must adhere to the Indian Standard IS 18316:2023.
Every shipment needs to be accompanied by a Test Certificate carrying the Standard Mark issued by a manufacturer certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

Certification: - Steel products must display the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau in accordance with Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

Disposal of Substandard Products: -Products that are substandard or defective must be disposed of as scrap in accordance with applicable provisions.

Enforcement: -The certifying and enforcing authority is designated as the Bureau of Indian Standards.

Penalties: -Violations of this directive are subject to punishment under Section 29 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).

Amendments: -Any changes or updates to the Indian Standards mentioned in the directive by the Bureau of Indian Standards will take effect from the notified date.
