OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has released a Quality Control Order titled the "Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024."

Effective Date: The order will take effect on the specified date as published in the Official Gazette.

Applicability:

It pertains to Hot-Rolled Steel Strip, Sheet, and Plates for Welded Steel Pipe used in Pipeline Transportation Systems.
It does not cover domestically produced steel and steel products intended for export that meet the specifications of foreign buyers.

Standards Compliance:

Each steel strip must adhere to the Indian Standard IS 18384: 2023.
Every shipment must include a Test Certificate with the Standard Mark issued by a Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certified manufacturer.

Certification: - Steel products must display the Standard Mark under a license obtained from the Bureau, following Scheme-I outlined in Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

Disposal of Substandard Products: - Subpar or faulty products should be disposed of as scrap in accordance with applicable regulations.

Enforcement: -The certifying and enforcing authority is designated as the Bureau of Indian Standards.

Penalties: -Violations of the order are subject to punishment under Section 29 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).

Amendments: -Any changes or updates to the Indian Standards mentioned in the order by the Bureau of Indian Standards will be effective from the notified date.
