OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Textiles is set to implement the "Geo Textiles (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2022," scheduled to take effect from January 1, 2024. This amendment aims to enhance and fortify the current quality control framework for geo textiles, ensuring elevated standards within the industry.

This directive applies specifically to products categorized as Geotextiles used in sub-grade separation within pavement structures, with the exception of those earmarked for export.

To comply with established standards, the specified goods or articles must meet the requirements of Indian Standard IS 16391:2015 (Geosynthetics - Geotextiles Used in Sub-Grade Separation in Pavement Structures – Specification) and display the Standard Mark. Manufacturers need to acquire a license from the Bureau, following Scheme-I of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau is authorized as both the certifying and enforcing body for the specified goods or articles, specifically Geotextiles used in sub-grade separation in pavement structures. Failure to comply with this directive may result in penalties under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).

This regulatory initiative aims to maintain the quality and standards of Geo Textiles, particularly focusing on Geotextiles used in sub-grade separation within pavement structures, thereby promoting safety and reliability across the industry.
