OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Textiles is set to implement the "Geo Textiles (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2022," scheduled to take effect from January 1, 2024. This amendment aims to enhance and bolster the current quality control framework for geotextiles, ensuring elevated standards across the industry.

This order specifically applies to products categorized as geotextiles used in sub-grade stabilization in pavement structures, with the exception of those designated for export.

To comply with established standards, the specified goods or articles must conform to Indian Standard IS 16362:2020 (Geosynthetics - Geotextiles Used in Subgrade Stabilisation in Pavement Structures - Specification) and display the Standard Mark. Manufacturers must acquire a license from the Bureau, adhering to Scheme-I of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau is authorized as both the certifying and enforcing body for the specified goods or articles, specifically geotextiles used in sub-grade stabilization in pavement structures. Failure to comply with this directive may result in penalties as per the provisions detailed in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).

This regulatory initiative aims to maintain the quality and standards of geotextiles, particularly those used in sub-grade stabilization within pavement structures, promoting safety and reliability across the industry.
