OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Textiles is set to implement the "Geo Textiles (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2022," which is scheduled to come into effect on January 1, 2024. This amendment aims to enhance and fortify the current quality control framework for geotextiles, ensuring elevated standards across the industry.

This order pertains specifically to goods or articles categorized as Geotextiles used in subsurface drainage applications, with exclusions for items intended for export.

To comply with established standards, the specified goods or articles must conform to Indian Standard IS 16393:2015 (Geosynthetics - Geotextiles Used in Subsurface Drainage Application - Specification) and display the Standard Mark. Manufacturers need to secure a license from the Bureau, adhering to Scheme-I of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau is authorized as both the certifying and enforcing body for the specified goods or articles, specifically Geotextiles used in Subsurface Drainage Application. Failure to comply with this directive may result in penalties as per the stipulations set forth in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).

This regulatory initiative aims to maintain the quality and standards of Geo Textiles, particularly focusing on Geotextiles utilized in Subsurface Drainage Applications, thereby promoting safety and dependability across the industry.
