OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Textiles is set to enforce the "Geo Textiles (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2022," which will take effect starting January 1, 2024. This amendment aims to enhance and fortify the current quality control framework for geo textiles, ensuring elevated standards across the industry.

This directive specifically applies to products categorized as Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC) Geomembranes, with exclusions for those designated for export.

To meet established standards, the specified goods or articles must conform to Indian Standard IS 15909:2020 for Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC) Geomembranes used in lining and display the Standard Mark. Manufacturers must obtain a license from the Bureau in accordance with Scheme-I of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau serves as both the certifying and enforcing authority for the specified goods, namely Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC) Geomembranes. Failure to comply with this order may result in penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).

This regulatory measure aims to maintain the quality and standards of Geo Textiles, particularly concerning Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC) Geomembranes, thereby promoting safety and reliability within the industry.
