OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Textiles announces the "Geo Textiles (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2022," scheduled to take effect from January 1, 2024. This amendment aims to enhance and fortify the current quality control framework for geotextiles, thereby ensuring elevated standards across the industry.

This order specifically pertains to goods or articles categorized as Polypropylene Multifilament Woven Geobags, with the exclusion of those intended for export.

To ensure adherence to established standards, the specified goods, Polypropylene Multifilament Woven Geobags, must comply with Indian Standard IS 16654: 2017, which outlines specifications for coastal and waterways protection. Products must bear the Standard Mark, and manufacturers need to obtain a license from the Bureau as per Scheme-I of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau is authorized as both the certifying and enforcing body for the specified goods, Polypropylene Multifilament Woven Geobags. Failure to comply with this directive may result in penalties under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).

This regulatory initiative aims to maintain the quality and standards of Geo Textiles, particularly focusing on Polypropylene Multifilament Woven Geobags, thereby enhancing safety and reliability across the industry.
