Dear Reader,
Order on Compliance of Input Steel and Base Accoutrements with Indian norms Issued 14 August 2025 To enhance product quality and insure full traceability across India’s sword sector, a new directive makes it obligatory for manufacturers to use input sword or base accoutrements that also conform to the applicable Indian norms( IS). In other words, if a finished product requires BIS instrument under a particular IS, the raw sword or substrate used for making it must misbehave with the linked IS standard( s) defined in this order.
The announcement provides a detailed mapping of IS norms connecting finished sword products with the corresponding IS norms for their input sword or base accoutrements . This frame attendants manufacturers, service centers, and processors in opting the right inputs and maintaining attestation for BIS examinations and checkups.
Illustrative Mappings from the OrderIS 1786:2008 – High-strength deformed bars and wires for concrete → Input must follow IS 14650:2023 (carbon steel billets, blooms, slabs, etc., with exceptions below 8 mm).
IS 277:2018 – Galvanized steel sheets (plain/corrugated) → Input options include IS 513 (Part 1 & 2):2016, IS 1079:2017, IS 2062:2011, IS 5986:2017, depending on substrate type.
IS 2002:2024 – Steel plates for pressure vessels → Input must meet IS 14650:2023.
IS 3024:2015 – Grain-oriented electrical steel → Input not required (as clarified).
IS 14246:2024 – Pre-painted galvanized sheets and coils → Input must comply with IS 277:2018.
IS 9550:2024 – Bright Steel Bars → Input may conform to several IS standards such as IS 7283, IS 5517, IS 4431, IS 3930, IS 3431, IS 3195, IS 4432, IS 11947, IS 3298, IS 14698, IS 7494, depending on bar type and grade.
The full order contains over 140 product–input mappings, including flat, long, coated, specialty, and electrical steel products. Stakeholders must refer to the official document for complete details.
Who Needs to Follow This Order?Primary & secondary steel producers: Suppliers of billets, blooms, slabs, hot/cold rolled substrate, and wire rod.
Downstream manufacturers Directors of bars, plates, wastes, coils, strips, cables, tubes, pipes, carpeted brands, and electrical/ specialty grades under IS product norms.
Source inputs precisely land sword only from manufactories or stockists who can give test instruments aligned with the counterplotted IS norms( e.g., IS 14650 for billets, IS 513/1079 for distance substrates).
Maintain traceability insure shop test instruments, heat figures, and conversion records link input compliance to the final product.
Update quality systems Revise examination formats to corroborate parcels as per input IS conditions and maintain records for BIS checks.
Revise specifications & POs easily mention both the final product IS and the input IS on delineations, purchase orders, and internal documents.
Inspection force chains Formulti-stage processing( HR → CR → coated), confirm compliance of each intermediate substrate with the needed IS.
Advanced safety & quality Minimizes pitfalls ofsub-standard inputs affecting critical operations in construction, automotive, energy, and pressure outfit. Streamlined BIS blessings Proper attestation of input compliance pets up instrument and inspection processes. Greater translucency Builds a more responsible and standards- driven sword force chain.
