In a major update for the electrical and power control industry, the Ministry of Heavy Industries has officially extended the implementation deadline for key product categories under the Electrical Equipment (Quality Control) Second Amendment Order, 2024.
The extension was announced via Notification S.O. 2007(E) dated 5th May 2025, referring to the earlier S.O. 1896(E) dated 3rd May 2024. As per the revised directive, the compliance deadline has been postponed by six months—from 10th May 2025 to 10th November 2025.
The updated enforcement date applies to several critical categories:
1. Circuit Breakers
Category A – AC Circuit Breakers (above 630 A, up to 440V AC)
Category B – AC Circuit Breakers (up to 2000 A, up to 440V AC)
2. Switches and Fuse-Combination Units: Switches, Disconnectors, Switch-Disconnectors, and Fuse-Combination Units
3. Contactors and Motor-Starters
Electromechanical Contactors and Motor-Starters
A.C. Semiconductor Motor Controllers and Starters
A.C. Semiconductor Motor Controllers and Contactors for Non-Motor Loads
4. Control Circuit Devices
Electromechanical Control Circuit Devices
Proximity Switches
Electrical Emergency Stop Devices with Mechanical Latching Function
This six-month compliance extension gives stakeholders more time to:
Complete mandatory BIS certification and testing
Align manufacturing and import processes with revised BIS quality standards
Avoid non-compliance penalties and supply chain disruptions
Products must clearly display their registration status through:
QR codes or barcodes on packaging
Product brochures
Direct product labeling with the BIS registration number
Companies dealing with electrical switchgear, control gear, and related components should act now to:
Finalize testing and certification
Review and update product documentation
Make sure all compliance measures are in place ahead of 10th November 2025.
