The Ministry of Heavy Industries has officially issued the Machinery and Electrical Equipment Safety (Omnibus Technical Regulation) Amendment Order, 2025, bringing crucial updates for stakeholders in the machinery and electrical equipment sectors across India.
This amendment modifies the previously notified 2024 Omnibus Technical Regulation and provides extended timelines for compliance, giving manufacturers, importers, and other stakeholders more time to align their products and operations with the mandatory safety requirements.
The Amendment Order, 2025, has introduced two major updates to the original 2024 Order:
The original enforcement timeline has been **revised from “one year from the date of publication” to 1st September 2026.
This means that the Regulation will now officially come into effect on 1st September 2026, allowing additional preparation time for industry players.
The amended paragraph now clearly differentiates between:
Machines and electrical equipment – Applicable from 1st September 2026
Assemblies, sub-assemblies, and components – Applicability will be notified separately by the Central Government through the Official Gazette.
This update ensures transparency in enforcement and provides a structured rollout, especially for component manufacturers who now await a separate notification.
This amendment has been enacted under the powers granted by Sections 16, 17, and 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Act, 2016 (11 of 2016). It has been issued in consultation with BIS, ensuring alignment with national quality and safety standards.
Manufacturers & Importers

Component Makers & Suppliers
Watch for a separate notification announcing the implementation date for assemblies and sub-assemblies

The Ministry’s move to extend the implementation timeline demonstrates a balanced approach—prioritizing public safety while allowing the industry adequate time to prepare for mandatory conformity. Stakeholders are advised to act proactively and leverage this extension to streamline their BIS compliance efforts.
