The Ministry of Communications has introduced a game-changing update for Equipment Type Approval (ETA) of license-exempt wireless devices. In an Office Memorandum (R-11017/01/2018-PP(part-1)) dated September 9th, 2024, the government announced key changes aimed at simplifying the approval process for manufacturers and importers in India’s telecom sector.
Self-Declaration for ETA Applications: ETA applications for license-exempt wireless devices, as per various Gazette notifications, can now be submitted on a self-declaration basis. This replaces the previously complex procedures, significantly reducing administrative hurdles and enabling faster processing.
Application Through SARAL Sanchar Portal: Applicants must submit their ETA applications via the SARAL Sanchar portal (saralsanchar.gov.in). The portal provides a one-stop platform for uploading documents, paying fees, and downloading ETA certificates seamlessly.
Compliance with RF Regulations: Ensuring compliance with Radio Frequency (RF) regulations remains a cornerstone of the ETA process. All wireless equipment must adhere to the necessary RF norms to obtain approval.
Import Requirements from DGFT: ETA holders must secure a No Objection Certificate (NOC) or fulfill other clearance requirements from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) before importing wireless devices. This step ensures compliance with India’s import regulations, which remain mandatory for all businesses.
This initiative aligns with the government’s vision to promote the Ease of Doing Business in India by enabling faster approvals and reducing regulatory bottlenecks for the telecom sector.
Faster Market Entry: The self-declaration process allows businesses to bring wireless products to market quickly.
Digital Transformation: The SARAL Sanchar portal eliminates manual paperwork, creating a more efficient and user-friendly process.
Enhanced Innovation: Streamlined approvals foster innovation and business growth in the telecom industry.
Submit Application on SARAL Sanchar Portal: Visit saralsanchar.gov.in to submit your application. Ensure all required documents are uploaded, and fees are paid for a smooth process.
Secure DGFT Clearances: Before importing, obtain an NOC or relevant clearances from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade to meet import compliance requirements.
Ensure RF Compliance: Verify that your wireless devices meet the Radio Frequency (RF) regulations for approval.
Simplified Approvals: Self-declaration eliminates complex formalities.
Faster Operations: Reduced delays mean quicker access to market opportunities.
Regulatory Compliance: A clear roadmap ensures businesses meet all necessary guidelines without confusion.
Businesses in the wireless device manufacturing and import sector can now take advantage of this streamlined process to scale operations and reduce time-to-market.
