We have crucial announcement concerning the Indian Standard for the the Geo Textiles (Geocells) Order, 2023, impacting all current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers.

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Textiles is set to implement the "Geo Textiles (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2022," which will come into effect from January 1, 2024. This amendment aims to improve and reinforce the current quality control framework for geotextiles, aiming for heightened standards across the industry.

This order specifically applies to products categorized as geocells, with the exception of those designated for export.

To ensure conformity with established standards, the specified products must meet Indian Standard IS 17483 (Part 1): 2020 (Geosynthetics - Geocells - Specification Part 1 Load Bearing Application) and display the Standard Mark. Manufacturers must obtain a license from the Bureau under Scheme-I of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau serves as both the certifying and enforcing authority for the specified products, specifically geocells. Failure to comply with this order may result in penalties as per the provisions stated in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).

This regulatory measure aims to ensure the quality and standards of geotextiles, particularly focusing on geocells, to promote safety and reliability within the industry.
