We have crucial announcement concerning the Indian Standard for the Geo Textiles (Polymeric strip or geostrip used as soil reinforcement in retaining structures) Order, 2023, impacting all current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers.
The Ministry of Textiles is set to implement the "Geo Textiles (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2022," scheduled to take effect from January 1, 2024. This amendment aims to enhance and fortify the current quality control framework for geotextiles, ensuring improved standards within the industry.
This order applies specifically to products categorized as polymeric strips or geostrips used for soil reinforcement in retaining structures, with the exception of those designated for export.
To ensure adherence to established standards, the specified products must meet Indian Standard IS 17372:2020 (Geosynthetics - Polymeric strip or geostrip used as soil reinforcement in retaining structures - Specification) and display the Standard Mark. Manufacturers must obtain a license from the Bureau under Scheme-I of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau is appointed as both the certifying and enforcing authority for the specified products, specifically polymeric strips or geostrips used as soil reinforcement in retaining structures. Failure to comply with this order may result in penalties as per the provisions outlined in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).
This regulatory measure aims to maintain the quality and standards of geotextiles, particularly focusing on polymeric strips or geostrips used for soil reinforcement in retaining structures, to enhance safety and reliability in the industry.
