OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Textiles is set to implement the "Geo Textiles (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2022," which will come into effect from January 1, 2024. This amendment aims to improve and bolster the current quality control framework for geotextiles, aiming for heightened standards within the industry.

This order specifically applies to products categorized as geogrids used in reinforced soil retaining structures, with the exception of those designated for export.

To ensure conformity with established standards, the specified products must meet Indian Standard IS 17373:2020 (Geosynthetics - Geogrids used in reinforced soil retaining structures) and display the Standard Mark. Manufacturers must obtain a license from the Bureau under Scheme-I of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau is appointed as both the certifying and enforcing authority for the specified products, specifically geogrids used in reinforced soil retaining structures. Failure to comply with this order may result in penalties as per the provisions outlined in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).

This regulatory measure aims to ensure the quality and standards of geotextiles, specifically focusing on geogrids used in reinforced soil retaining structures, to promote safety and reliability in the industry.
