OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Textiles has introduced the Quality Control Amendment Order, 2024, officially titled the Protective Textiles Quality Control (Upholstered Composites Used for Non-Domestic Furniture) Order, 2024.

This Order pertains to:

Upholstered composites used in non-domestic furniture, excluding those meant for export.
Upholstered composites or fabrics offered as raw materials, in rolls, or used in the construction of non-domestic furniture.

This order aims to establish quality standards for products, particularly upholstered composites used in non-domestic furniture, with the exception of those intended for export.

In accordance with the specified standards outlined in IS 15768:2008 (Textiles - Resistance to ignition of upholstered composites used for non-domestic furniture – Specification), goods or articles must comply with the relevant Indian Standard and display the Standard Mark. Manufacturers must obtain a license from the Bureau under Scheme-I of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau is appointed as the certifying and enforcing authority for the specified products, specifically upholstered composites used in non-domestic furniture.

Any individual found breaching this directive will be subject to penalties as per the provisions outlined in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).

This regulatory framework aims to guarantee the safety and quality of protective textiles, particularly upholstered composites used in non-domestic furniture, within the market. It emphasizes adherence to established standards for the benefit of consumers and industry stakeholders.
