OVERVIEW
The Ministry of Textiles is introducing the "Geo Textiles (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2022," scheduled to take effect from January 1, 2024. This amendment aims to enhance and strengthen the current quality control framework for geotextiles, aiming for improved standards within the industry.
This order specifically applies to products categorized as reinforced HDPE membranes for effluent and chemical resistance lining, with the exception of those designated for export.
To ensure adherence to established standards, the specified products must meet Indian Standard IS 17374:2020 (Geosynthetics - Reinforced HDPE membrane for effluents and chemical resistance lining - Specification) and display the Standard Mark. Manufacturers must obtain a license from the Bureau under Scheme-I of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
The Bureau is appointed as both the certifying and enforcing authority for the specified products, specifically reinforced HDPE membranes for effluents and chemical resistance lining. Failure to comply with this order may lead to penalties as per the provisions detailed in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).
This regulatory measure aims to maintain the quality and standards of geotextiles, particularly focusing on reinforced HDPE membranes for effluents and chemical resistance lining, to promote safety and reliability in the industry.
