OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Textiles is set to implement the "Geo Textiles (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2022," scheduled to come into effect from January 1, 2024. This amendment aims to improve and bolster the current quality control framework for geotextiles, aiming for elevated standards within the industry.

This order specifically applies to products categorized as geogrids for flexible pavements, with the exception of those designated for export.

To ensure adherence to established standards, the specified products must meet Indian Standard IS 17371:2020 (Geosynthetics - Geogrids for flexible pavements - Specification) and display the Standard Mark. Manufacturers must obtain a license from the Bureau under Scheme-I of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau is appointed as both the certifying and enforcing authority for the specified products, specifically geogrids for flexible pavements. Failure to comply with this order may result in penalties as per the provisions outlined in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).

This regulatory measure aims to maintain the quality and standards of geotextiles, particularly focusing on geogrids for flexible pavements, to promote safety and reliability within the industry.
