OVERVIEW

The Protective Textiles (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2024, issued by the Ministry of Textiles, will become effective on the date it is published in the Official Gazette.

This order aims to establish quality standards for products, specifically curtains and drapes, with the exception of those intended for export.

According to the specified standards outlined in IS 15741:2007 (Textiles – Resistance to ignition of curtains and drapes - Specification), goods or articles must comply with the relevant Indian Standard and display the Standard Mark. Manufacturers must obtain a license from the Bureau under Scheme-I of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018, to ensure compliance.

The Bureau is designated as the certifying and enforcing authority for the specified products, namely curtains and drapes.

Any individual found breaching this directive will be subject to penalties as per the provisions outlined in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).

This regulatory framework aims to guarantee the safety and quality of protective textiles, particularly curtains and drapes, within the market. It emphasizes adherence to established standards for the benefit of consumers and industry stakeholders.
