OVERVIEW

The Protective Textiles (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2024, issued by the Ministry of Textiles, will become effective on the date it is published in the Official Gazette.

This order aims to set quality standards for products, particularly protective gloves for firefighters, with the exception of those intended for export.

According to the prescribed standards, products defined under IS 16874:2018 (Textiles - Protective Gloves for Firefighters - Specification) must adhere to the relevant Indian Standard and display the Standard Mark. Manufacturers must obtain a license from the Bureau under Scheme-I of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau is appointed as the certifying and enforcing authority for the specified products, specifically protective gloves for firefighters.

Any individual found breaching this directive will be subject to penalties as per the provisions outlined in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).

This regulatory framework aims to ensure the safety and quality of Protective Textiles, particularly protective gloves for firefighters, within the market. It underscores adherence to established standards for the benefit of consumers and industry stakeholders alike.
