Key update regarding the Indian Standard applicable to current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers for the Acrylonitrile (Quality Control) Order, 2020.

BIS Quality Control Amendment Order for the Acrylonitrile

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has announced the implementation of the Acrylonitrile (Quality Control) Second Amendment Order, 2024, which will come into effect on October 24, 2025.

The order applies to Acrylonitrile products but excludes those intended for export.

It requires Acrylonitrile products to comply with Indian Standard IS 12540:1988 and display the Standard Mark under a Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) license, following Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Regulations for Conformity Assessment by the Bureau of Indian Standards in 2018

The Bureau of Indian Standards is designated as the authority responsible for certifying and enforcing standards for Acrylonitrile products.

Any person found contravening the provisions of this order will face penalties under the applicable legislation.
