Dear Reader,
We have crucial announcement concerning the Indian Standard for the Protective Textiles (Clothing made of limited flame spread materials and material assemblies affording protection against heat and flame) (Quality Control) Order, 2023, impacting all current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers.
The Ministry of Textiles has introduced the "Protective Textiles (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2022," scheduled to come into effect from October 7, 2023. This amendment aims to strengthen and optimize the current regulatory framework for ensuring the quality control of protective textiles, maintaining high standards across the industry.
This order aims to establish quality standards for products such as clothing made from materials with limited flame spread and assemblies providing protection against heat and flame, with the exception of those intended for export.
Manufacturers must ensure that goods or articles, defined by IS 15742:2007 (Textiles - requirements for clothing made of limited flame spread materials and material assemblies affording protection against heat and flame - specification), adhere to the Indian Standard and display the Standard Mark. They are obligated to acquire a license from the Bureau under Scheme-I of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
The Bureau serves as the certifying and enforcing authority for the specified products, which include clothing made of limited flame spread materials and material assemblies providing protection against heat and flame.
Any individual found breaching this directive will be subject to penalties as per the provisions outlined in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).
This regulatory framework aims to guarantee the safety and quality of Protective Textiles, particularly Clothing made of limited flame spread materials and material assemblies offering protection against heat and flame, within the market. It underscores adherence to established standards for the benefit of consumers and industry stakeholders alike.
