The order will take effect from the date it is officially published in the Gazette. The order applies to products classified as chains and sprockets, which must meet the specifications of Indian Standard IS 13927:2005 — Cranked-link mill chains of welded construction attachments and sprockets. All such products must display the BIS Standard Mark, issued under a valid licence from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) as per Scheme–I of Schedule–II under the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

 

Implementation timeline:

• General manufacturers (excluding Micro and Small Enterprises): Must comply within 6 months from the date of publication.

• Small Enterprises: Required to comply within 9 months.

• Micro Enterprises: Compliance must be ensured within 12 months.

Goods produced solely for export are exempt. BIS will act as the certifying and enforcement authority, and non-compliance will be penalised under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
