OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has released a draft announcement for the Chains and Sprockets( Quality Control) Order, 2025. Once published in the Official Gazette, the order will take effect incontinently. This order covers goods classified as chains and sprockets, which must meet the conditions set in Indian Standard IS 155092017, Double pitch perfection comber chains attachments and associated chain sprockets for transmission and conveyors. All covered products must display the BIS Standard Mark, issued under a valid licence from the Bureau of Indian norms( BIS) in line with Scheme – I of Schedule – II of the BIS( Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

Implementation timeline:

General manufacturers (excluding Micro and Small Enterprises): Must comply within 6 months from the date of publication.
Small Enterprises: Required to comply within 9 months.
Micro Enterprises: Compliance must be ensured within 12 months.

Exclusion for Export:

The order does n't apply to products made solely for import. BIS will serve as the instrument and enforcement authority for these goods. Any violation will invite penalties under the Bureau of Indian norms Act, 2016.
