Key announcement for all current licence holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and sellers of products covered under the Chains and Sprockets (Quality Control) Order, 2025.

BIS QCO for Chains and Sprockets (Heavy Duty cranked Link transmission chains)

OVERVIEW

The order will take effect from the date it is officially published in the Gazette. It applies to chains and sprockets, which must meet the requirements specified in Indian Standard IS 15510:2004 — Heavy-duty cranked link transmission chains.
All such products are required to display the BIS Standard Mark, issued under a valid licence from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in line with Scheme–I of Schedule–II under the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

Implementation timeline:

General manufacturers (excluding Micro and Small Enterprises): Must comply within 6 months from the date of publication.
Small Enterprises: Required to comply within 9 months.
Micro Enterprises: Compliance must be ensured within 12 months.

The order does not apply to goods produced solely for export. BIS will act as the certification and enforcement authority, and violations will be subject to penalties as per the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
