OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Textiles has announced the "Protective Textiles (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2022," set to take effect from October 7, 2023. This amendment aims to strengthen and improve the current regulatory framework for quality control of protective textiles, maintaining a commitment to elevated industry standards.

This order aims to set quality standards for goods, particularly protective clothing for industrial workers exposed to heat, with the exception of items intended for export.

In accordance with specified standards, products defined under IS 15748:2022 (Textiles - Protective clothing for Industrial workers exposed to heat, excluding firefighter's and welder's clothing) must comply with the relevant Indian Standard and display the Standard Mark. Manufacturers must obtain a license from the Bureau under Scheme-I of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau is appointed as the certifying and enforcing authority for the specified products, specifically protective clothing for industrial workers exposed to heat.

Any individual found breaching this directive will be subject to penalties as per the provisions outlined in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).

This regulatory framework aims to guarantee the safety and quality of Protective Textiles, particularly protective clothing for industrial workers exposed to heat, within the market. It emphasizes adherence to established standards to benefit consumers and industry stakeholders alike.
