The Ministry of Commerce and Industry released an amendment order in 2023 to the Quality Control Order for "Air Conditioner and its related Parts, Hermetic Compressor, and Temperature Sensing Controls," originally issued in 2019. Indian Standard IS 10617:2018 details specifications for Hermetic compressors.

This directive will be effective from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.

This amendment, taking effect upon its publication in the Official Gazette, introduces multiple provisions:

1. A one-year exemption is granted for Hermetic Compressors exceeding 7000 W (2 TR) capacity.

2. Importing up to 200 units annually for research and development purposes is exempted, provided they are not intended for commercial sale.

3. Goods manufactured domestically or imported before the commencement of the amendment are exempted, with sales permitted until March 31, 2024, subject to declaration to the Bureau.

4. Certified manufacturers are allowed to sell up to 6,000 hermetic compressors and heat exchangers annually for maintenance and sales for three years from the commencement of the amendment, with a declaration requirement.

5. Hermetic compressors and heat exchangers imported by certified manufacturers for export-oriented manufacturing, as specified in the export order, are exempted.
