OVERVIEW

The Protective Textiles (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2024, issued by the Ministry of Textiles, will take effect upon its publication in the Official Gazette.

This directive is crafted to oversee the quality standards for products or items, particularly Protective Clothing for use in welding and allied processes, with the exception of those intended for export.

Adhering to the specified standards, the products or items, as outlined in IS 16655:2017 (Textiles - Protective clothing for use in welding and allied processes), must meet the corresponding Indian Standard and display the Standard Mark. Manufacturers must acquire a license from the Bureau, in accordance with Scheme-I of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau is appointed as both the certifying and enforcing entity for the designated products or items, specifically Protective Clothing for use in welding and allied processes.

Any individual discovered to be in breach of this order will be subject to penalties as per the stipulations outlined in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).

This regulatory framework aims to guarantee the safety and quality of Protective Textiles, particularly High Visibility Warning Clothes, available in the market. It underscores the importance of adhering to established standards for the welfare of both consumers and industry stakeholders.
