OVERVIEW

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has released a Quality Control Order titled the "Quality Control Order for Solar Thermal Systems, Devices, and Components, 2024."

This order applies to All Glass Evacuated Tubes Solar Collectors within the country, excluding those intended for export, and becomes effective after one hundred and eighty days from its publication in the Official Gazette.

According to this directive, Solar Flat Plate Collectors are required to comply with the relevant Indian Standard IS 12933 (Part 2):2003, which specifies the components of Solar Flat Plate Collectors. Moreover, they must display the Standard Mark issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme-I of Schedule II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau of Indian Standards holds the role of the certifying and enforcing authority for Solar Flat Plate Collectors. Additionally, in collaboration with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, the Bureau will oversee market surveillance to verify adherence to the Indian Standard for products displaying the Standard Mark.

Failure to comply with this order may result in penalties as specified in subsection (3) of section 29 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).
