OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Textiles has unveiled the "Protective Textiles (Quality Control) Amendment Order, 2022," slated to take effect from October 7, 2023. This amendment aims to bolster and streamline the current regulatory structure for ensuring the quality control of protective textiles, maintaining a steadfast commitment to elevated industry standards.

This directive is formulated to govern the quality standards for products or items, particularly waterproof multipurpose rain ponchos, with the exception of those destined for export.

In compliance with the specified criteria, products or items, as outlined in IS 17286 : 2019 (Textiles - Waterproof multipurpose rain poncho with convertibility as bivouac - Specification), must meet the relevant Indian Standard and display the Standard Mark. Manufacturers must acquire a license from the Bureau, adhering to Scheme-I of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau is appointed as both the certifying and enforcing body for the designated products or items, such as waterproof multipurpose rain ponchos.

Any individual discovered to be in breach of this order will be subject to penalties as per the stipulations set forth in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).
